Review of Catch Your Breath at Maryhill Winery & Amphitheater - Counting Crows
We will probably never return for a concert. Too bad... Maryhill was responsible for the sound quality which really threw the whole experience away. The concert, interestingly named The Traveling Circus and Medicine Show, was however, a different experience. The staff was awesome and the experience was relaxing. We arrived at 11am, met some friends, and enjoyed wine tasting at the bar and a couple of bottles on the outdoor patio. The lead singer, Adam Duritz, was as distorted as the sound. The music seemed to pulse through the air and escape behind the stage down the Columbia as if the speakers were pointing the wrong way. Sorry Duritz, but I didn't pay to listen to you mumble and stumble through half the lyrics! The fifty bucks I spent for one ticket was waste of money. We will definitely return for this experience. My sense of reality was left wondering the grassy barren hills of southern Washington looking for a way out. We returned later that evening for the concert and took the shuttle bus from the museum. But enough ripping on Duritz, if that's how he performs, maybe there are some out there who enjoyed it. I hope so for his band's sake. But I would have rather paid to hear more from the other band, Augustana. We settled on the grassy slope about three quarters of the way up and took in the perfectly set stage above the Columbia River and the Oregon backdrop. The sound quality was the worst I've ever heard. Sincerely, Ryan Age 32.
